Community Ward Forum meetings – have your say locally throughout the year

In response to the views of residents the Waltham Forest Council has changed the way it engages with people in their local areas. Community Ward Forum meetings have replaced Community Councils and will take place in each of the 20 wards, three times a year.

The Forum meetings will be open to individual residents, community groups and business representatives who want to help shape and improve their neighbourhood. Each Community Ward Forum will have £10,000 to spend each year on projects it believes are worthy.

To find out when and where your ward meetings are please contact the Council’s Community Engagement Team on 020 8496 3000 or visit: www.walthamforest.gov.uk/index/council/community-ward-forums.htm

Knitting and Sewing group

The group meets every Thursday, 2pm-5pm, at the Hornbeam cafe. All ages are welcome and a cup of tea is provided with the £1.50 fee.

Honey bees to apple trees – forest gardening through the year

A free 10-session course over a year providing in-depth knowledge of the concepts and principles of forest gardening and the skills involved in creating a productive and attractive growing space. Forest gardening is about working with nature wherever we live.

It is aimed at individuals and groups involved in or thinking about new food-growing initiatives and includes both theory and practical work. Each session will cover a different topic but all will be linked to enable participants to develop a design appropriate to the space they have.

The course starts in March and runs over the next 12 months to February 2012. For more information or to book a place, email Seema Patel on worknet@walthamforest.gov.uk
