A sessional worker for Age UK Waltham Forest has been awarded the ‘Learner of the Year’ award after attaining an NVQ level 2 in social care earlier this year.
The local branch of the charity – which has recently changed its name from Age Concern, after joining forces with Help the Aged – teamed up with the Training Network Group (TNG) to facilitate the training of five of its Home Support team. Throughout 2010, the employees have been studying hard and all five have recently achieved their NVQs.
On top of their overall success, one of the learners has now been recognised nationally for her efforts. On 28th October, Linda Spillman was presented the ’Learner of the Year’ award at a House of Commons reception by Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Iain Duncan Smith.
Linda, who has been a much-valued member of the Age UK Waltham Forest team for many years, said: “I am thrilled to be singled out to receive the award and proud to be representing Age UK Waltham Forest.”
Following on from this achievement, Linda intends to pursue her studies and train for a level 3 in social care.
